Using AI to Simplify English

Education and innovation.

ForwardNLP™ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation dedicated to making communication and comprehension of the English language more accessible.

We aim to use recent developments in AI, specifically in natural language processing (NLP), to increase opportunity through innovation and education. We seek to learn about challenges in improving education for English as a Second Language (ESL) and neurodivergent learners and to explore how technology can be developed to improve outcomes.

Founder’s Message

Communicating with others is a common challenge faced by English as a Second Language (ESL) and neurodivergent communities. Approximately 1.5 billion people speak English globally, making it the most widely spoken language in the world. Understanding English has become essential to achieving economic opportunities and social mobility.

My work as an AI researcher with the USC Intelligence and Knowledge Discovery (INK) lab and as an ENGin English language tutor for Ukrainian youth inspired me to explore how I could use AI to make the English language more accessible. In 2022, I created ForwardNLP for this purpose. We want to leverage AI to increase the accessibility of English to a more diverse group of people, allowing them to benefit from the technology and expand their resources.
